Political mailing

Political mailers and campaign mail in Staten Island and NYC

Political mailers have to land by a date that does not move. Our Staten Island mailing house and print shop handles the design, printing, list prep, presort and mailing for your campaign mail.

Phone hours: Mon–Fri, 9–5. Closed Saturday and Sunday.

The basics

What a campaign mailing involves

A political mailer is direct mail tied to an election date: printed marketing that the Postal Service (USPS) delivers to the households you choose. Several jobs sit behind each one.

Mailing terms new to you? Our guide to how direct mail works explains each one.

Campaign mailingWhat we handle

Design
Our graphic design team works from your goals and brand, or you send print-ready artwork.
Printing
In-house digital and offset printing. See Printing & design.
List prep
You supply the list. We remove duplicates (merge/purge) and validate addresses. See Data management & lists.
Presort
Sorting the way USPS asks, so pieces can qualify for lower postage rates. See Presorting & mailing.
Mailing
Inserting, sealing, labeling, traying and delivery to USPS.
Tracking
Ask about tracking. Our live tracking system lets you monitor, from a dashboard, when your mail reaches homes, and we confirm tracking for each project. See Mail tracking.

The pieces

Political mailers, handouts and yard signs

Three of our products suit campaign work. The sizes and finishes below are options, so ask us to confirm yours.

Letters and self-mailers (folded pieces that mail without an envelope) are part of our direct mail services too.

Timeline

Working back from your date

Start at the in-home date, the day or window you want mail to land, and count backward. The earlier we see your project, the more room you have for edits.

  1. In-home date

    Choose the landing date

Pick the day or window. The rest of the schedule counts back from it.

  2. USPS hand-off

    Leave time to mail

We deliver presorted, trayed pieces to the Postal Service, which then carries them to homes.

  3. Print and finish

    Allow for production

Folds, inserts and finishing each add a step, so mention them early.

  4. Artwork and list

    Settle both first

Production and mailing both depend on final artwork and a clean list. List processing has its own stated service level, covered on the Data management & lists page, and it applies to that step only.

  5. Today

    Call us early

Call (347) 466-5873 (Mon–Fri, 9–5) and tell us the date and the audience. We explain each step and what we need from you.

Union printer

Union-printed campaign mail

JMS Print & Mail is a union print shop. Our union label is number 549L from the Printing, Packaging and Production Workers Union of North America (PPPWU), Local 1L.

If your campaign wants its mail and handouts union-printed, say so when you ask for a quote and we will confirm how the union label applies to each piece.

Campaign checklist

What a campaign mailing needs from you

  • Your list. You supply the mailing list as an Excel or CSV file. Political mail is subject to disclaimer and list-use rules. Confirm them with your campaign counsel, the NYC Campaign Finance Board or the NYS Board of Elections before you print. See Disclaimers and list rules.
  • Your artwork. A print-ready PDF (a finished file, sized for the piece, that needs no more design work), or a design brief if you want our design team to build it.
  • Quantity and format. How many, what size, and whether it is a postcard, flyer, letter or sign.
  • Your in-home date. When you want mail to land.
  • No list? Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) mails to whole carrier routes rather than a list of names. EDDM is a USPS service; we are an independent printer and mailer.

Still pulling things together

Give us the date and the audience, and we will tell you what is still missing.

Campaign mail questions

Can you design and print campaign mailers?

Yes. Bring finished artwork, or ask our graphic design team to build the piece from your campaign goals. Printing is in-house, so the shop that prints your mailer can also prepare and mail it. See Printing & design and Postcards for formats.

Do you print yard signs and flyers too?

Yes. We print yard signs and flyers as well, in the same shop that handles your mailers. Signs are printed for you to place, so call (347) 466-5873 to arrange pickup or drop-off. Flyers can be printed only or mailed. See Large format printing and Printing & design.

Where do I confirm disclaimer and list-use rules?

Political mail is subject to disclaimer and list-use rules. Confirm them with your campaign counsel, the NYC Campaign Finance Board or the NYS Board of Elections before you print. We do not give legal or compliance advice, so settle the wording and the list rules before you send files. The Disclaimers and list rules section of this page has the same pointers.
