Why postcards

Why a postcard suits a local campaign

A postcard needs no envelope and no opening, so the picture and the offer are in front of someone the moment they pick it up.

It also keeps you focused: one message and one next step, such as a call, a QR code scan or an RSVP. For more detail, a brochure from our printing and design team is the better format.

Two ways to order

Print only, or print and mail

Decide who gets the cards into people’s hands: you or us.

Print only

We print the cards and you take it from there. Good for:

  • Handouts at your counter or at an event
  • Door-to-door drops by your own team
  • A mailing you run yourself

Print, address and mail

We print the cards, address each one, presort them and deliver them to the United States Postal Service (USPS). Presorting groups the cards by destination before they reach USPS; presorting and mailing explains how.

You choose who receives them:

  • A targeted list. Mail to chosen households or businesses. We can build or clean the list first: see data management and mailing lists.
  • Every door on a route. EDDM postcards (Every Door Direct Mail) go to whole carrier routes instead of named people, so no list is needed. EDDM is a USPS service; JMS Print & Mail is an independent printer and mailer.

We serve customers across the United States, from our base in Staten Island, NY (areas we serve). Mailings can go to addresses across the country.

Postcard checklist

What to send with a postcard request

  • A print-ready PDF, or a short design brief if you want us to design the card
  • The size and quantity you have in mind
  • A stock and finish preference, if you have one
  • For mailing: your list, or the neighborhoods you want to reach
  • The date you want cards in mailboxes, known as the in-home date

Postcard questions

What sizes do postcards come in?

The popular sizes are 4 × 6, 5 × 7 and 6 × 9 inches, and we can print a custom size. A smaller card suits one picture and a short message; a larger card leaves room for a map, a coupon or a fuller offer. If you plan to mail the cards, tell us the size early: the Postal Service sets size and shape rules (see USPS.com (opens in a new tab)), and your choice can change how a piece is mailed.

Can you print postcards without mailing them?

Yes. Printing and mailing are separate steps, so you can order the cards alone and distribute them yourself. Call (347) 466-5873 (Mon–Fri, 9–5) to arrange pickup or drop-off. If you later want them mailed, we can add addressing and mailing through our direct mail services.

What file should I send?

Send a print-ready PDF if you have one. Print-ready means the file is finished, sized for the piece and needs no more design work. If you are not sure, send what you have and we will tell you. The quote request page lists the other file types you can attach, including list files for personalized cards. Prefer to talk it through? Call (347) 466-5873 (Mon–Fri, 9–5).
